Volunteer with Ulemu

SPECIALISTS

Malawi | Full Time | minimum 1 month

If you'd like to come volunteer with us (on your own dime), we're happy to welcome any volunteers. When you're down here, there's plenty of activities to choose from but we primarily need:

  • Teachers

  • Early Childhood Development Specialists

  • An accountant/bookkeeper

  • Agronomist

  • Nutrition consultant

  • Forestry Management Specialist

  • Administrators

  • Translators (Chichewa and English required, Tumbuka, Chisena and Yao preferred)

  • Solar Power Specialists

Please Note: Rural Malawi is not for the feint of heart. As one of the poorest countries in the world, living here means:

  • living several hours from the nearest hospital

  • without electricity

  • without indoor plumbing

  • with a significant language barrier

  • eating whatever's put in front of you

  • genuinely enjoying children


You'll need to be comfortable with this and adaptable to "Africa time" and ever-changing plans. Lastly, you'll have to have the spine and honesty to point out bad ideas, such as Evin's fixation on blockchain and cryptocurrency. Ailbhe can help you with this. Overall we're looking for someone with a hard work ethic and good sense of humor who wants to make an impact in the world.

GENERALISTS

Malawi | Full Time | minimum 1 month

If you don't have experience with any of the specialist categories, not to fear! An able-body and willingness to learn is always appreciated. If you'd like to come volunteer with us (on your own dime), we're happy to welcome any volunteers. Some other activities we could use help with are:

  • Building windmills, tree houses, boats, and playgrounds

  • Organising the toy competitions, making toys, or designing toys

  • Video editing

  • Letter writing

  • Truck driving (must have a valid driver's license)

  • Making/playing instruments

WEB DESIGNER (WIX.COM)

Remote/Global | Part-time | 10 hours/quarter

Our current designer's full time job has become too busy to continue with Ulemu. If you're interested but unfamiliar with Wix, we will offer transitional training as our current team member rolls off.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Website design/creation (wix.com)

  • Copy editing with a focus on marketing

  • Quarterly video calls with Ailbhe and Evin
